Faced with tough opposition from hosts Shelford, neighbour Cambridge, and travelling Newmarket & Huntingdon, our boys showed up motivated from the word “go!”. Shaking off the traditional early morning blues inspired by Wilf, or perhaps the wiff of delicatessen showcased at the nearby Romanian festival. Tries by forwards pushed on by the backs (literally; see Harry’s try top left), were followed by moving footwork and speed from centres and wings, frustrating the valiant efforts by Newmarket (6-1) and Shelford (on astro; 5-1), and Cambridge (3-0). Few words of encouragement by the coaches (bottom left) and not even a dry and sloping pitch discouraged our heroes, who made 4 out of 4 against a dug-in Huntingdon (1-0). Victory calls for victory: will the best U12s this side of the Ivel repeat the feat in Hemel Hempstead?
