Royston 2’s started the season on a high, winning their pre-season friendly against Biggleswade. Travelling away with a strong squad, the Crow’s looked aggressive from the kick off, advancing against the home side with a flurry of breaks. The early pressure from Royston saw Biggleswade driven deep into their own half, finally resulting in Paul “Rocky” Rabbetts scoring under the posts, the try easily converted by Ben Ireland.
Biggleswade, following the early upset, began to gain ground, putting Royston on the back foot. The home side scored two tries in quick succession, converting one and taking the score to 12-7. Rocky once again game to the rescue, finding space to move forward and offloading, letting Callum McDermott swoop in for the try, with Ireland slotting the kick for the second time.
The second half saw Biggleswade up the tempo, gaining a further two tries and a 10 point lead. McDermott again found space, setting up a ruck close to the Biggleswade try line that Stu Habergham struck from, unstoppable at close range. With 10n minutes remaining, the Crows were just 3 points behind.
Within minutes of the kick-off, Rhys Redrup had found space in the centres, outstripping everyone to give Royston the lead. Following the re-start, Royston were once again on the move, it was Aaron Taylor that found the gap this time, powering away to seal the victory. Biggleswade fought on until the final whistle, however the final score saw Royston with a 35-24 win.
