Crows host wendens at the heath

Royston under 11 got their season off to a flying start with matches against local rivals Wendens Ambo on Sunday.

The squad of nearly 30 children was split up into two teams the Crows and Ravens with each team gracing the heath's first team pitch playing two matches.

The Ravens first match was great fun with tries from Sam Jones, Oliver Tallis, James Griffin and Captain Tom Pymar. Brandan and Luc were making their Royston debuts and both got into some great tackles and runs. Whilst Sam Jones scored a hat trick and Oliver Tallis and James Griffin linked to create a cross field kick try that the All Blacks would be proud of.

In the true spirit of rugby Sam Dawson and Hugo Ware volunteered to play for the opposition, with Oliver Tallis and James Griffin paying the same respect in the second game.

The Ravens second game saw more great rugby played in fine spirits, Max Davis-Roach opened the scoring and Rhys Mason linking the play from scrum half. Royston won plenty of counter ruck in this game with Leo Hatcher leading the line. Wendens came into the game as Royston tired, with James Griffin crossing to score for the away team.

Scores and results are not recorded at under 11, this is to maximise the individual development and enjoyment of each player. Players from both teams enjoyed the post match hot dogs and look forward to locking horns again later in the season.
