Saffron Walden travelled to Royston for a Cambridgeshire cup game that we knew would be tough. The early encounters were dominated by the forwards running very hard lines at each other. Neither side gave an inch and the Royston forwards worked incredibly hard to to stop Saffron Walden at the gain line. The first half ended all level with no team able to score.
Royston played the first half into the wind and with the sun in their eyes - in the second half Royston changed their tactics. The boys played a smart kicking game and Saffron Walden were forced to play most of their rugby in the their own 22.
Three second half tries from Royston were as a result of excellent support runners - Max's score on the right wing came from a break on the half way line and went through at least 8 pairs of hands. The best passage of play in the game!
This was an excellent performance. Once again our small squad pulled off an impressive victory against one of the strongest clubs in Cambridgeshire.
Tries : Rory, Max, Billy
Cons : Cody x1
