A scrappy final, played on a small pitch, which suited neither side. Both teams attempted to play with width, however on the whole defence was the key. It was interplay between forwards and backs which led to Royston crashing over near the posts. Royston made it two a short time later with a audacious quick tap and solo mazy run unchallenged. Shelford rallied and through some hard fought territory won a penalty about 20m out, which was reduced further due to indiscipline and a quick tap eventually saw them crash over. Half time 7-12
The second half saw real endeavour by both teams. Royston secured better ball from the ruck but good defence in the Shelford backs prevented much progression two break away tries in the last couple of minutes sealed the game and the first piece of silverware but 7-24 did not reflect how close the game was throughout.
Royston now progress to the Eastern Counties finals day
