Royston travelled to Chelmsford in the torrential rain this Sunday.

Royston 24 – Chelmsford 0

Royston travelled to Chelmsford in the torrential rain this Sunday.
Royston dominated the first 20 minutes by putting pressure on the Chelmsford scrum and great tackling by the back row of Will Pritchard, Zac Conley and Charlie Capewell meant that Royston were on the front foot. Nathan king at Scrum half had a great game and digged the ball out the puddles to set the Royston backs away on numerous runs. Jack Charge direct lines of running made great space for the Royston side but just could not get the ball away to capitalise on the overlaps and a few chances went begging.
Eventually the pressure told and after quick ball from a ruck the ball moved through the hands and Joseph Ellison was on hand to finish and crash over the line. Chelmsford had a few plays in the Royston half but again great defence kept them at bay. Royston went in at half time 5 – 0 up.

The second half Royston started strongly again and good forward play Bradley Church, Jake Letch and Tom Goddard kept Royston on the front foot. The ball was recycled quickly and moved along the line and Ryan Peck went in on the wing to make the score 10 – 0. Some fantastic play by the full back Sean Seymour who caught everything in the rain and made great yardage kept Royston on the attack. Again quick ball through the hands of Charlie Oughton, and Jack Charge meant Ryan Peck scored his second try from close range. Ash Jones converted to make the score 17 – 0. Alex Welch was the forward of the day with great tackling, strong running and great hands in attack. His persistence and a great drive from 25 yards out saw him stopped just short of the line. Great rucking over from the forwards including Jamie Capewell meant quick ball came back to Jake Storey who crashed over to score his 3rd try in two games. Chelmsford did not threaten the Royston line with tackles from Charlie Oughton, Jack Charge and Nathan King keeping them pinned back. Ash Jones converted and Royston ran out with a win of 24 points to Nil.

A great all round team performance by all meant a good win for the boys with a few missed chances left on the field.
