A decisive semi-final win in the Herts Cup
By Steve Floyd
Royston U14’s took control of the game from the first whistle
Tabard travelled to Royston to play for a place in the Herts Cup final at the end of April. After some tough games in the last month Royston were in no mood to let this game slip.
Playing with the wind in the first half Rory Rees mixed up the play well and the mixture of a good passing and kicking game kept Tabard guessing. Early tries from Ben Smith, Owen Floyd and Rory settled early nerves of players and supporters alike. The aim was to build a good lead while we had the strong wind in our favour and a further first half try from Josh Wheatley meant we were in a strong position going into the wind after half time.
Any fears that a Tabard comeback was on the cards were not forthcoming as a steady stream of tries came from strong forward play and an expansive passing game from the backs in the second half. Royston imposed their dominance keeping the ball in hand, running in a further four tries scored by Billy Turkington, Luke Saltmarsh and a further two for Ben Smith allowing him to complete his hat trick.
Royston will now travel to Hertford RFC on 28th April to play Cheshunt in the final. We look forward to seeing as many family and friends as possible on the day to support our boys.
