Nice, competitive rugby

With the weather report indicating that we had a 50% chance of getting rain from 10am there was a bit of nervousness, certainly for the head coach, as we are not at our best when it is wet and cold. Fortunately, although a little windy, the rain and clouds stayed away. This provided a great environment for both Barnet and us to play some very close, competitive and great open rugby.

Both sides were well matched at the breakdown with some very good rucking and counter rucking. The tackling on display was good to very good with very few tackles above the armpits - credit to both sides. Each player played 3 matches with very little rest in between and this did start to show towards the end when gaps in defence started to open up. Everyone is to be commended on their efforts with one small reminder that they need to stay focused and in the game for the full game - we did have lapses that did result in opposition tries.

Royston worked hard on maintaining their defensive lines which, overall, were some of the most structured we have been all season. The attack play was good as well with the ball moving out to the wings and then sometimes even coming back the other way. The result of this was some great running rugby tries that show the coaches what they already know the team can be capable of. The teams handling continues to improve and so does the accuracy of our passing.

Thanks to Barnet players, coaches and parents for the great friendly atmosphere to which they contributed.

Well done to all.
