Young Crows triumph in Glorious Mud

The U12's first fixture at a cold cold wet and extremely muddy pitch at unknown Cheshunt. The match began well with Burlton, Donellan and Howarth constantly making a nuisance of themselves in the loose creating the perfect platform for the backs with some great rucking and mauls. Elliott also made his presence felt with a thumping tackle.
Donnellan, Burlton and Howarth ensured the Crows dominated every scrum.
That enabled suberb passeges of play involving the impressive Rees, linking well with the lively scrum-half Jones creating havoc with the Cheshunt defence and inviting the backs into the game.
Seven unanswered tries by half time were the reward for determined play with Mulcock's carrying and Pendalbury's surging forward runs. Smith was a constant menace, ripping the ball and securing a good platfrom for the backs. Denchfield and Roberts ensured when Cheshunt attacked there was no way through and closed the door.
Fuller was also determined to get on the score sheet gathering from full back and waltzed through the entire Cheshunt team to score in the corner. Adam was also on the scoresheet with excellent support play after Rees put him in the corner.
Mitchell and (Alex)came looking for work off the wings late on and ensured no one was isolated and carried well when called upon.
Try of the game came in the second half with Rees and Howarth combining with sublime inside passes and loop which drew gasps from the spectators and the referee who bizzarely screamed, "That was Welsh!!", before composing himself!!
Vale, was not to be denied late on securing his first try with a determined touchdown after unselfish work throughout the match.
Cheshunt did cross the whitewash once in fairness and were committed throughout but the visitors were far too strong and drilled running in a further seven tries. Final score Royston 70, Cheshunt 5.
