Victory for Royston

The boys from Royston dominated the Huntingdon Stags at The Heath on Sunday.
In chilly conditions the locals were anything but. They scored within the first 5 minutes when George Howard, Royston’s fullback, swooped on a loose ball and sprinted up the sideline to score under the posts. The home side soon made it 10 nil when James Shannon caught the ball from the restart and weaved his way through the flimsy Huntingdon defence to score a 60 mtr try under the posts. Ben Ireland was unsuccessful with the kick.
The visitors threw everything at Royston but they were unable to penetrate the home team’s line. The tackling from Royston’s backline was a highlight of the game, particularly from Rhys Redrup, Maxwell Ayliffe and Royston’s Back of the match, Charlie Capewell.
The locals forward pack lead by Captain Jacob Joyce, James Meecham and Royston’s Forward of the Match, Dan Jones setting a great platform for their fleet footed backs. Tom Parry and James Reeder were unstoppable. Their strong Rucking and Mauling lead to the home side running in another two great tries, one from Ben Ireland and another by George Howard.
The first half was cut short when Royston’s hard running Prop, Tom Parry, was taken from the field and to hospital. He was later discharged which muscle strain to the neck.
It was more of the same after the break with Roystons forwards, Tyler Boyne and Aiden Greenwood dominating the visitors pack. Again the home side’s Backs (Dom Dunklin and Joseph Gilhooly) continued to run riot. Royston Scored another 4 tries and successfully converted two.
The final score was Royston 44, Huntingdon nil.
