Under 13's hold Haverhill to a 42 all draw.

Royston under 13's Hosted an injury ridden Haverhill side on Sunday. Haverhill only being able to field 8 fit boys, meant the length game and and the size of the pitch had to be adjusted.

The format of the revised first games saw the teams play eight a side rugby for ten minutes each half on a smaller pitch.

Royston received the kick off and quickly started where they finished last week. The forwards set a strong platform and the backs were able to capitalise on the quick recycled ball. Royston took the lead in the next phase to go up 7 nil after Ben Ireland successfully converted the try. Haverhill soon hit back when Royston made an uncharacteristic error, when the visitors No. 10 streaked across the pitch to score. He then converted his on try to even the score up. From the restart, the visitors went to the lead when their no. 10 again boshed the ball up to score a great try. Again the conversion was successful. The rest of the game was an arm wrestle the the lead changing a number of times.

The boys showed great spirit again in the first game, being down by 2 trys with less than 3 minutes to play, they did not give up and clawed back to finish the game 28 points all.

Royston try scorers Jacob Boyce (2) Ben Ireland (2), James Meecham (2). Conversions Ben Ireland (6)

The second game the Royston offered the services of three of their players to Haverhill which meant both teams fielded 11 players. Royston showed their dominance in the pack with great rucking and mauling led by Roystons Forward of the day Cameron Bonfield. The forwards dominance paved the way for Roystons no. 9 Dominic Dunklin to inject himself around the ruck and to score a try himself.

Relentless attacking from both the Roystons forwards and backs and aggressive tackling saw the home side take a commanding lead. Haverhill never gave up and the commitment showed by the Royston players on loan to Haverhill was commendable. The game could not come soon enough for Haverhill with the final score being Royston 46 Haverhill Nil.

It was very rewarding to see all of the boys step up again this week, say Coach David Ayliffe. The boys are showing great maturity, and are now starting to play consistent structured team rugby. All the parents and I are very proud of them.
