Royston 2’s also found themselves playing away, coming up against Southgate who had dealt the Crows a crushing blow earlier in the season. Southgate started well, scoring an early try against the visitors, it was not quite enough to wake Royston up and the home side again picked up points with a brilliantly executed drop goal. Royston started to find their feet, challenging the Southgate defence with moments of excellence such as Roderick Bisset’s classy dummy pass, the Crows eventually pulling back a try. Southgate led for most of the game, with Royston staying close to their score, however with 10 minutes remaining, Royston were 10 points behind. An interception from Tom Greaves led to Mac Tuncer running free and scoring, 5 minutes to go, 5 points needed. Royston drove forward after receiving the kick off. The Crows thundered against the hosts defence, pushing them back, with Greaves finally crashing over the line and after a roar he calmly walked back to convert the try, giving Royston a 24-22 victory.
