Travelling south, Royston faced Kilburn Cosmos, with The Crows looking to climb back up the table after a few tough weeks. An early series of error by Kilburn gave Royston penalties that allowed the visitors to gain some ground however the Royston kickers we struggling to get distance due to a strong headwind. The gradual progress up the field allowed Max Finney to dart for the try line, scoring the first points of the match. The restart saw Royston again begin their drive into the wind, again being rewarded as Danny Gwilliams bowled over the line, the try then converted by Will Dacey. Following two early tries by the visitors, Kilburn began building an attack of their own, scoring two tries in quick succession to take the lead for the first time in the game. Royston responded by gaining ground with the boot and Rob Turner intercepting a loose pass to run in for ta try, once again Dacey converted to give Royston a 5 point lead at half time.
The second half began with The Crows on the front foot as Finney added another 5 points with Dacey’s boot once again hitting the mark. Royston, having stretched their lead began to slow their tempo, which Kilburn used to their advantage, battering the Crow’s defence and forcing errors to set up their third try of the match. Again Royston came back, with Finney picking up a hat trick, only for Kilburn to bound through the Royston defence and score another try. Chris Ellis kept The Crow’s in the lead following a wild dash after a loose ball. Kilburn did not give up, punishing The Crow’s and forcing errors, the allowed more ground to be gained. In the final 15 minutes, Kilburn picked up two more tries, taking the game right to the wire, however Royston’s defence shored up enough to prevent the winning try, the final whistle bringing giving The Crows a 36-40 victory.
