Royston 1st XV continued their league campaign, when they faced mid-table Barnet Elizabethans at The Heath. Royston struggled to find their feet early in the game, looking strong in attack, but individual errors meaning no significant ground was made. It was one such error that gave Barnet possession, opening up an opportunity that the visitors grasped with both hands, scoring in the corner. Royston 0 – 5 Barnet Elizabethans. Despite the early try, neither side scored again in the first half, with both teams making numerous handling errors.
The second half saw a very different game being played, as the Crows pieced together phases, picking up a penalty within the range of Will Dacey’s boot. Royston 3 – 5 Barnet Elizabethans. Royston, now spurred into action started to show the power in their scrum, weakening the visitor’s defence. A unique pass by Joe Butcher found the hands of Damo Fouracres who pounded over for a try, then converted by Dacey. Royston 10 – 5 Barnett Elizabethans. It was some strong running in the middle that lead to the final try of the game, with Max Finney going over in the corner, Royston leaving the field with a 15-5 victory.
