The sides looked to be evenly matched with possession going back and forth, the only breakthrough came from a deft display of skill by Adam Smith at the back of a lineout, allowing Louis Dummett to crash over the line for Royston. The end of the first half saw Royston 7 – 0 ahead.

The Crows pressed hard at the start of the second half but handling errors gave London French the upper hand, allowing them a breakdown on the wing that resulted in their first try, levelling the score 7-7. A second try came straight from the kick-off with the French breaking through a series of weak tackles to score. Royston had chance of a reprieve however missed a penalty shortly before the home side sliced through the Royston back line crossing the line once again. The Crows were shell-shocked by the quick succession of tries and attempted to push back, resulting in further loose play. Royston made a several attempts at the opposing line but failed to maintain their composure, the final whistle sealing the 24-7 defeat. Royston’s Head Coach Mick Jones commented “this lose bodes well for the development of this young group of players, highlighting the need to cut out errors and play to our strengths”.
