Crows defeat the Norfolk Crusade

Royston 1st team faced Crusaders 1st XV in the second round of the Junior Vase. Royston were out for revenge against the Norfolk side that had knocked them out of the competition the previous year. The Heath, unlike previous weeks experience the full glory of November weather as the players were lashed with rain and a strong wind made kicking extremely difficult. The Crows started slowly with Crusaders stretching the Royston defensive lines resulting in an early try. Royston managed to bounce back, however the first half looked as if the game could go either way.

The second half was to be a different story, with the weather clearing and The Crows finding their feet, tries were scored freely by backs and forwards alike. Crusaders crumbled under a relentless barrage of attacks. John Brain, Jacob Boyce and Max Finney all picking up tries. It was the Royston captain Ben Ritsema who shone, running in four tries and kicking three conversions. First team debutants Charlie Oughton and Luke Ackford showed the skill and strength that had earned them a place in Royston’s top side, with both contributing significantly to the 41-10 victory.
