The first half saw both teams defences dominate. The rain had a part to play making handling difficult, but it did not prevent the endeavour.
Ruislip broke the deadlock towards the end of the half scoring in the top righthand corner from a kick through. The try was unconverted and Ruislip went into the half time break 0-5.
Changes were made at half time bringing on some fresh legs and the second half was more open as players tired, space opened up for both teams. Mid way through the second half Royston finally crossed the white wash through a backs move and some strong running. The try was converted giving Royston the lead 7-5. As the game wore on Royston had a couple of penalties in front of the posts, within range, but on both occasions opted to kick to the corner and run the ball respectively, both repelled by Ruislip. The decisive score came towards the end of the match with some more strong running in the backs, which saw Royston again score in the top right corner. The try went unconverted and the game ended a short time later Royston 12- Ruislip 5.
A good debut run out for two new Royston players.
A closely fought contest by both teams and plenty of work ons before our next fixture.
